The Chick

The Chick presents a hybrid body suspended between categories of gender, species, and representation. The figure appears in a classical portrait pose, frontal and composed, yet its gaze is sharp, almost scrutinizing. A rooster mask—imperfectly crafted, artificial, and theatrical—transforms the head into a site of animalistic masquerade. In contrast, the naked torso is exposed but strangely incomplete: the absence of nipples denies conventional markers of gender and sexuality, destabilizing normative readings of the body.
This composite being—at once human and animal, male and female, seductive and unsettling—embodies a transgressive form of identity. The work oscillates between parody and power, between vulnerability and confrontation. By merging the grotesque with the ritualistic, The Chick stages a critical meditation on how cultural codes of femininity, masculinity, and corporeality are constructed, disrupted, and reimagined.
